We are Sunday's stop on
Rebecca H. Jamison's blog tour of
Persuasion: a latter day tale.

published by Cedar Fort Books

synopsis (from Goodreads)

When Anne broke off her engagement seven years ago, she thought she'd never see Neil Wentworth again. But when Neil's brother buys the house she grew up in, it seems fate has other plans in store, and Anne is woefully unprepared for the roller coaster of emotions that accompanies Neil's return. Fans of Persuasion will love this fast-paced, modern retelling of Jane Austen's most romantic novel.

My Review

A perfect book for Valentine's Day. A story of love lost and lives renewed, and of forgiveness.

I think as a stand alone book, this was a great story. When compared to Jane Austen (my hero) it is a close second. The author was able to convey similar themes and ideas. Jane Austen would have been proud to have been such an influence.

Anne and Neil were great characters. Well rounded and full of life. Anne's dysfunctional family drove me crazy- but they were true to life characters.

If you are a fan of Jane Austen you will like this story.

UNBINDING THE HEART
BY
AGAPI
STASSINOPOULOS

synopsis (from Goodreads)

In Unbinding the Heart, author, speaker, and Huffington Post regular Agapi Stassinopoulos invites readers on an inspiring journey of inner exploration to reconnect with their true selves.Born in Greece, a country that celebrates life, Agapi learned the essential truths of happiness through the examples of wisdom, caring, playfulness, and generosity she saw all around her, starting with her own mother. She came to realize that everyone is born with an open heart, but that we quickly learn to put conditions on our happiness—comparing ourselves to others, casting judgment, doubting ourselves, allowing fear or entitlement or self-righteousness to take hold—and slowly our hearts begin to close. We isolate ourselves, feeling alone, disconnected, and unheard; and in doing so we immobilize our spirit, stifle our authentic expression, and cut off our joy.As she went on, Agapi, like so many of us, came under the soul-constricting influences of the larger world. In her struggle to find her place and her voice, trying to balance the acting career she dreamed of with the spiritual life she longed for, she discovered a path that was uniquely hers. Unbinding the Heart shows how she found her way home to herself. In 32 personal, heartfelt stories full of insight and humor, Agapi takes us from her mother’s bountiful kitchen, where the seeds of fearless living were planted, to the London classical stage, to an epiphany on a New York City bus—and inspires readers with the confidence to let go of the beliefs that bind them and come to a deeper understanding of life and love.

MY REVIEW

What a wonderful, thought provoking book.  I completely enjoyed this novel.  As other readers have expressed, I couldn't put it down.  I lost myself while reading.
Unbinding the Heart is a perfect title.  We could all use a little unbinding at times.

This is the book you should give to friends as a gift.  Everyone has stress in their lives, especially with today's economy and problems.  We can all learn from Agapi's
words and experiences.
Be good to yourself, while getting this for friends, don't forget to get a copy for yourself.  Sit down with a cup of tea and read the Greek wisdom within these pages!

Even if you are not a fan of 'spiritual/self help' books, you WILL enjoy this book and take something away with you.

Halflings

by Heather Burch

published by Zondervan

available 2/1/12

synopsis (from Goodreads)
After being inexplicably targeted by an evil intent on harming her at any cost, seventeen-year-old Nikki finds herself under the watchful guardianship of three mysterious young men who call themselves halflings. Sworn to defend her, misfits Mace, Raven, and Vine battle to keep Nikki safe while hiding their deepest secret—and the wings that come with.

A growing attraction between Nikki and two of her protectors presents a whole other danger. While she risks a broken heart, Mace and Raven could lose everything, including their souls. As the mysteries behind the boys’ powers, as well as her role in a scientist’s dark plan, unfold, Nikki is faced with choices that will affect the future of an entire race of heavenly beings, as well as the precarious equilibrium of the earthly world

MY REVIEW

The idea behind this book is very promising. Three half god/half man Halflings who are sent to this 'realm' to protect humans from 'the enemy'.

The book has a fascinating beginning with main character Nikki, a 17 year old girl, running for her life from 4 hell hounds.  Yes, 4 hellhounds.  The halflings jump in at just the right time to save her.

I think there is far more to this teenage girl than meets the eye.  Why would four hellhounds chase after a teenage girl?

The character of Nikki was ok. I wouldn't consider her to be one of the more memorable female characters from today's YA books.

The halfling boys, now they are another story.  The interaction between Mace, Raven and Vine is just too entertaining for words.  They act like real brothers.  They annoy each other constantly, but you know they will watch each others backs, no matter what.

Throughout this book, I kept expecting Sam and Dean Winchester of TV's Supernatural to jump into the room and save the day.  It didn't happen.

Like a tv show, there really wasn't much resolved in this book.

Hopefully book two will be able to answer many of my questions.

I give this book 3/5 stars and recommend it to all lovers of angel stories.
